Illinois consumers can file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) regarding an incident with a business. The BBB’s purpose is to offer a way for individuals to file complaints about issues with a business and potentially find a resolution. Complaints accepted by the BBB include those between a consumer and a business and those between two businesses. The BBB keeps a record of all complaints and uses them to keep Reliability Reports up-to-date and as accurate as possible.
Things You'll Need
- Internet access
Start the process. Click “File complaint” from any of the Illinois BBB sites. You will then be taken to a screen showing a statement for your review. Once you have read the review, click on “Next” to continue the process.
Answer the questions. On the next page, you will be asked three questions about your complaint. Answer what the complaint is about, such as where the business is located at, what category the complaint fits in and if you have any military affiliation.
State where you are located. Fill in your country of residence, the United States, and zip code where you live. Click “Next” to continue.
Locate company information. Find the company’s information by completing a search using phone number, company name or website address. The next page will offer a listing of businesses related to your search. Click on the business you wish to file a complaint about. If the company is not on the list, click on “I cannot find the business” at the bottom of the page. On the next page, you will be asked for all of the contact information regarding the business.
Write about the incident. Next, you will want to write about what happened and why you are filing a complaint. Remember to be as detailed as possible, including who you spoke with, what was said and what happened. State whether you have evidence to validate your complaint.
Answer any other questions listed. The BBB may ask additional questions regarding your complaint to better help them resolve the issue. When you are done and have answered all of the questions, click “Submit.” You will be contacted if the BBB has additional questions or require your documents. You will also receive notice of any resolutions made.
