How to Embrace the Workplace
People with full-time jobs spend a large portion of their waking hours at work. If that work is a job that you don't like, you are probably experiencing high levels of stress, disappointment and restlessness. Rather than spend years in an unhappy situation, it makes more sense to either leave the job or change your attitude to one that embraces your workplace.

Change Your Attitude
-
1
Examine your own mindset to determine what part it plays in your happiness or unhappiness at work. If you are unhappy at work, put effort into observing your reactions to coworkers, assignments and the work environment.
-
2
Identify the points where you are making your own situation worse through negative attitude. For example, you may be reacting to a coworker who annoys you by being snide, unfriendly or dismissive, thus further damaging your relationship. Try changing your reaction to this person and observe how this changes your experience at work.

3
Approach work tasks from a creative perspective to engage your mind in a positive way. Within the limitations of your workplace, change your manner of doing things to keep your mind stimulated. Undertake tasks in a different order, move the furniture in your office around or install a new browser or operating system on your computer. The mind thrives on novelty, and these changes will help you to maintain interest.
Be Proactive
-
4
Ask your employer about starting a new program or task that you have been thinking about. Don't wait around for things to change if you aren't happy with the way they are. Whatever the situation that is bothering you, take some time to create a positive alternative and present it to your boss and to anyone who might be involved in the change.
-
5
Set goals for yourself in both the short and long term. Decide on small goals within your present position to be achieved in a few months. If you work for a company where you plan to stay, begin plans to seek a promotion. If you don't plan to stay with your present company, lay out some goals for when you will leave and to where you will go. Set realistic, ambitious and flexible time lines to reach these goals.
-
6
Initiate positive working relationships with coworkers. Spending time with people you enjoy and working on accomplishments together can help you to embrace your workplace and gain satisfaction, as well as a paycheck from your time there.
