Always start with clean hair. Wash your hair and rinse with cool water. The cool water closes the hair follicle and creates shine. Add a dollop -- about the size of a quarter -- of styling mousse to wet hair and comb it through. Blow dry your hair in its usual shape with a round brush to add fullness to your hair. Dry the back of your hair, so that you have a small bouffant. Make sure your hair is completely dry before you use other styling tools.

A curling iron is a valuable tool in creating a dressy look. Wrap small sections -- about 1/2 inch thick -- of the long portion of your hair around a hot curling iron. You may place the curling iron sideways for corkscrew curls, down for a pageboy look, or up for a flip. It depends on what kind of curl you want. Hold for three seconds and release. Do this to the entire section of your long side. Do not comb or touch the hot curls. Let it cool before going any further. This will ensure that the curls will stay in and not fall out.

The height at the back of the asymmetrical haircut adds glamour. Curl the top back portion of your hair. Pull the top back section straight up. Place the curling iron at the roots and pull it slowly to the ends. Curl down towards the back, creating a mini-pageboy.

Feminine and trendy, the curly asymmetrical 'do is a fashion favorite. Run your fingers through your curls. This will create a tousled look. Or you may want a more disciplined look. You can achieve that by combing the curls and guiding them to fall the way you want. Back-comb the top portion of your hair and tease it if necessary, for the desired height. Spray with lightweight hairspray to hold your style.

Pretty hair ornaments can be purchased inexpensively at any drugstore. Add a stylish barrette to your long side, about halfway down your forehead. Or slip a headband on, leaving your long side free. A colorful scarf may also be tied around your head, much like a headband; or simply leave your hair unadorned.

Crimped hair is a classic look. Crimping your hair gives you a more funky appearance. Follow all the steps above and use a crimping iron. Crimping can dry your hair out, so be careful not to hold the iron on your hair for too long. Crimping may also be achieved by braiding your hair when it's wet and letting it air-dry. When you remove the braids, you will have beautiful waves!

Tips & Warnings
Asymmetrical haircuts are not for everyone. If you have a round or square face, the cut is very flattering.
Asymmetrical haircuts need to be maintained carefully, so they don't look sloppy. A trip to your stylist every 6 weeks is a must.
