How to Turn on Livescribe Without the Paper
Livescribe smartpens allow you to sync your written notes with audio recordings. You must use special Livescribe paper, called dot paper. As you write, the pen records audio and links the audio with your notes. When you review your notes, tap anywhere on your writing and the pen will play the audio that recorded at that moment. To activate a recording, tap on the "Record" symbol at the bottom of the dot paper. However, if you don't have dot paper with you, you can still activate an audio recording.

Locate the power button on your LIvescribe smartpen. It is near the top of the pen at the end of the display window.

Press and hold the power button until "Rec" appears in the display.

Release the power button.

Tips & Warnings
It may take a few seconds for the recording to activate. The display may appear blank for one or two seconds before "Rec" appears.
Don't release the power button until "Rec" appears or the audio recording won't turn on.
