How to Take Out False Teeth

Dentures can replace your smile, but not if you mishandle them.

Whether you have full or partial dentures, proper care must be taken when removing them from the mouth. Otherwise, the cost to repair or replace damaged dentures -- or to seek treatment for a mouth injury -- could take a bite out of your bank account.

Things You'll Need

• Towel
• Warm water or mouthwash

Instructions

1. Rinse the mouth out with warm water or mouthwash.

2. Fill a sink with warm water or place a towel on the counter to cushion the blow, if the dentures should fall during removal.

3. Place a thumb against the back of the top two teeth, and push forward and out.

4. Grasp the inside lower front teeth with the first two fingers and thumb, and gently rock the bottom denture, while pulling it out.

Tips & Warnings

• Rinse dentures after eating. Also, follow the dentist's directions for proper storage of the dentures when not in use.

• Always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling dentures.
