1
Use candles that are specifically made for floating in water. These candles typically have a wide bottom, which makes them more buoyant. Illuminate the candles and gently place them on the surface of the water in a pool, bathtub or vessel filled with water that you are using as a centerpiece.

Set tea lights in plastic candle holders. Since tea lights are small and equal in size all around, they may not stay afloat in the water or water may easily flow over the top of them, causing them to sink or burn out. To avoid having this happen, place tea lights in plastic candle holders. Plastic is buoyant, so it will float on top of water. Additionally, the candle holders will add to the statement, since you can use different colored and shaped holders.

Place candles on a bamboo or teak tray. Bamboo and teak are buoyant woods, so trays made out of these materials are an ideal way to float a variety of different types of candles on water. Place votive or pillar candles on a bamboo or teak tray and add other elements, such as banana leaves or blooms of flowers, to add more drama to the floating candle display. When creating such a display, first set the tray in the water and then arrange the candles and any other elements on the tray. Such a display will bring an eye-catching look to your pool or large bathtub.
