How to Train a Boxer Dog to Obey
The boxer breed is known for its affectionate nature, particularly with children. However, a boxer may have a tendency to become dominant if its owner does not actively take the dominant role. A dominant boxer can be stubborn, demanding and difficult to control. As a responsible dog owner, you must work to get your boxer to take you seriously. Begin training your boxer at a young age to ensure that you will be capable of controlling the dog as it matures.

Enroll your boxer in obedience training classes. The classes will teach your dog to trust and respect you. Use an animated, friendly tone of voice while teaching commands to keep the dog interested. Figure out which treats your boxer likes best. Use them as positive reinforcement for following your commands.

Encourage the boxer to see you as the pack leader. This will enable you to gain the dog's trust and respect. Do this by making the dog sit and wait before you give it food or affection.

Don't let the dog jump up on beds or furniture. Being allowed on furniture will reinforce the boxer's dominant state of mind. When telling the dog to get down, stand with your back straight and exhibit a confident attitude.

Before setting off on a walk, make your boxer sit and wait calmly before you attach its leash. Step out of the house before your dog, and ensure that it is the last one to enter the house at the end of the walk. While on the walk, position yourself slightly in front of your boxer to establish your leadership. Walk confidently with a slack leash, and give a quick sideways tug on the leash if your dog attempts to move in front or pull you.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure your boxer gets plenty of exercise. A boxer that is not getting enough exercise can become bored and restless and exhibit unwanted behaviors.
