How to Crochet Pumpkin Nut Cups
Pumpkin nut cups are pastries that are most often served around Thanksgiving. They feature baked crust cups filled with a mixture of pureed pumpkin, nuts like pecans or walnuts, spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg, and other ingredients. You can crochet little pumpkin nut cups to resemble the real food. A tan crocheted base, polyester stuffing, an orange top, and beads or sequins are pieced together to make this special, albeit inedible, seasonal treat.
Things You'll Need
- F-size crochet hook
- Tan worsted-weight yarn
- Stitch marker
- Dark orange worsted-weight yarn
- Scissors
- Polyester stuffing
- Tapestry needle
- Sewing needle
- Brown or orange sewing thread
- Brown beads or sequins
Instructions

1
Make a slipknot using the tan yarn. Hold the yarn so that it forms a vertical circular loop, with the loose end of the yarn hanging behind the loop. Insert your crochet hook into the right side of the loop. Hold the hook under the loose end to bring the yarn up through the loop. Pull the ends to secure the knot tightly on your hook.
-
2
Make two chain stitches. Create a chain stitch by bringing the yarn from back to front across the front end of the hook, then use the tip to catch the yarn. Draw the yarn through the loop already on the hook as you drop that loop off of the hook.

3
Make five single crochet stitches into the second chain stitch from the hook. The single crochet stitch is made by inserting the hook into the stitch, grabbing the yarn, pulling it through the stitch, and bringing a new loop onto the hook. Then grab the yarn again, and draw it through the two loops you already have on the hook.
-
4
You should now have six stitches. Arrange the stitches so they are in a circle. Use the stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round. Make two single crochet stitches into each stitch of the first round.
-
5
Make one single crochet stitch in the first stitch and two single crochet stitches into the second stitch of the next round. Continue this pattern to complete the round.
-
6
Make one single crochet stitch into the first and second stitches and two single crochet stitches into the third stitch of the next round. Continue this pattern to complete the round and to finish the bottom of the pumpkin nut cup.
-
7
Continue to work with the tan bottom of the cup. Crochet the next round using the single crochet stitch. However, only insert the hook into the back loop of each stitch. This will make the sides stand up.
-
8
Make a single crochet stitch into the first 11 stitches of the next round, and make two single crochet stitches into the next stitch. Repeat the pattern to finish the round.
-
9
Make one single crochet stitch into the first six stitches of the next round, and make two single crochet stitches into the next stitch. Then make one single crochet stitch into the next 12 stitches. Make two single crochet stitches into the next stitch, and then make one single crochet stitch into the last six stitches to complete this round.
-
10
Finish the cup body by making a single crochet stitch into the first 13 stitches, and making two single crochet stitches into the next stitch. Repeat the pattern to complete the round. Cut the yarn, and draw it through the last loop.
-
11
Repeat Steps 1 through 3 using the dark orange yarn to create the top of the pumpkin nut cut. Fill the finished tan cup with polyester stuffing.
-
12
Cut a length of tan yarn, and thread it through the tapestry needle. Use this needle to sew the top of the pumpkin nut cup just inside the opening of the cup. The top should only rise slightly above the rest of the cup. Use the tapestry needle to weave in loose ends.
-
13
Use the sewing needle and brown or orange thread to sew brown beads or sequins to the top of the pumpkin nut cup. These embellishments represent the nuts that cover the top of the real pastries.
