How to Spot a Counterfeit LV Bag

The popularity of Louis Vuitton bags has skyrocketed in modern times and many designers have mimicked the iconic LV monogram by adding their own initials to their bags. But this increased popularity means many counterfeit bags are being sold online, at retail shops and on the street. They can look identical to the real thing and buyers must concentrate on small details. Spotting a fake can keep you from making a mistake that costs hundreds of dollars.

Instructions

1. Check to see if there is a tag on the outside of the bag. Louis Vuitton does not use hang tags or a circular tag with the LV logo.

2. Inspect the dust bag that comes with all authentic LV bags. LV dust bags, made from a soft high-quality material, do not have rounded corners. They have "Louis Vuitton" or "LV" printed on the front.

3. Examine the interior of the bag. While many counterfeiters use inexpensive fabrics, Louis Vuitton bags are typically lined in red or honey canvas, microfiber suede, cross-grain leather or other luxurious fabrics.

4. Look for plastic parts. LV bags do not have plastic handles or packaging.

5. Compare the style of the bag to styles on the LV website. The Louis Vuitton design house has classic designs. If the bag is an unusual shape or design, it is most likely fake.

6. Analyze the bag's LV pattern, which should never be tilted or diagonal. The two sides of the pattern are always proportionate.
