How to Hook Up My BluRay & My HD Cable Box to My TV With Only One HDMI Plug

The HDMI interface allows for the best possible connection for high-definition--enabled devices. If your TV only has one HDMI input and you want to connect both your cable box and Blu-ray player with HDMI, use an HDMI splitter. HDMI splitters enable you to connect multiple devices to a single input. Once you connect the devices, use the controls on the splitter to cycle between the cable box and Blu-ray inputs.

Things You'll Need

  • HDMI cables
  • HDMI splitter
  • Plug one side of an HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on the back panel of your TV.

  • Connect the other side of the cable to the "HDMI OUT" port on the rear of the splitter.

  • Insert another HDMI cable into the "HDMI OUT" port on the cable box, and connect the opposite end to the "HDMI 1" port on the rear of the splitter.

  • Plug the end of another HDMI cable into the "HDMI OUT" port on the rear of the Blu-ray player and plug the opposite end of the cable into the "HDMI 2" port on the back panel of the splitter.

  • Plug the power adapter from the splitter into a nearby power outlet and turn on your TV. Press the "Input" button on the TV's remote control until the image from the splitter appears on the TV. Use the selector knob on the front of the splitter to change between the inputs.
