How to Find the Size of the Hard Drives on Your PC

Find out how much space your hard drive occupies.

There are many times when you'll need to know the size of a hard drive: when you need to defragment the hard drive, when installing large programs, when upgrading the operating system or adding more hard drive storage. It takes a few simple steps to locate the size of the hard drive or multiple hard drives on a Windows computer, with the same procedure applicable for Windows Vista and newer operating systems.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and click "Computer."

2. Click on the hard drive under "Hard Disk Drives." A check mark appears when it is selected. Right-click on the hard drive. Click "Properties" from the pop-up menu.

3. Click the "General" tab in the "Properties" dialog box. A pie chart appears and the information about how much free space and used space is available on the hard drive.

4. Click "OK" to close the "Properties" dialog box.

• Call the hard drive manufacturer or go to the hard drive manufacturer's website to find out more information about the hard drive and its storage capacity.
