How to Pass the EOCT in Georgia

Save

Since the passage of the A+ Educational Reform Act, End of Course Tests (EOCT) have been required for Georgia students in ninth through twelfth grades. The tests cover core subjects including math, social studies, science and English and count toward 15 percent of a student's final course grade. Fortunately, there are resources available to help students prepare for and pass the EOCT.

  • Utilize study guides. Go to the Georgia Department of Education website (doe.k12.ga.us). Under the "Hot topics" section on the homepage, scroll down to "Testing" and click the link for "End of course tests." From the EOCT page, scroll down to the "Student guides" section and click the link for the course you wish to study.

  • Review previous tests. End of Course Tests from previous years are available on the Georgia Department of Education website. Follow the directions in Step 1, then scroll down to the "EOCT released tests" section. Click the link for the test you would like to review. Choices include algebra, American literature, biology, economics, geometry, ninth grade literature, physical science and U.S. history. Practice with these tests, then check your work against the answer key accessible on the EOCT page.

  • Find a tutor. Speak with your teacher or school guidance counselor to locate a skilled tutor. Ask a student who has done well on the EOCT you are preparing to take to give you some tips on achieving success or help you study.

  • Seek help from your teacher. Ask the teacher in the subject you are having difficulty with to help you prepare for the EOCT. She may have extra material available to assist you or she can devote additional time working with you on problem areas.
