How to Connect 6-Volt Lantern Batteries in a Sears Lantern
Battery-powered lanterns sold by Sears for camping or emergencies use a 6-volt battery for power. You can connect either a rechargeable or disposable battery to your lantern. Turn the lantern switch on the base or the handle to the "Off" position.

Unscrew the housing for the bulb and lens on a handheld lantern to open the battery compartment. On a hanging lantern, unscrew the base to open the battery compartment.

Turn the new battery so the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on the top align with the matching terminals inside the lantern's battery compartment. Slide the battery into the compartment.

Reattach the base or the bulb and lens assembly, depending on your model, screwing the part onto the lantern clockwise.
