Instructions

    • 1

Slice the loaf in half lengthwise to create 2 long half-loaves. Lay the halves crust side down.

    • 2

Combine the butter, mashed garlic and chives together in a small bowl.

    • 3

Spread the mixture generously over the loaf halves.

    • 4

Place the bread on a baking sheet. Place in the oven for about 10 minutes.

    • 5

Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the bread, if desired.

    • 6

Turn the oven to broil. Move the oven rack to the setting closest to the broiler.

    • 7

Place the bread back into the oven to broil for 2 to 3 minutes, until golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

    • 8

Let the bread cool for a minute before cutting it up into even pieces. Serve warm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Watch the bread constantly while it is broiling, because the broiler will quickly burn the bread if you are not paying attention.
