Home bakers can buy heart-shaped cake pans to facilitate the project. However, there are also basic techniques you can use to shape a heart cake using square and round cake pans. Things You'll Need

  • Prepared cake batter
  • Frosting
  • Food coloring or dye, if needed
  • 8-inch round cake pan
  • 8-inch square cake pan
  • Knife
  • Offset spatula
  • Piping bag with decorating tips

Instructions

      Pour cake batter into each cake pan and bake following the recipe's instruction.

      Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool thoroughly.

      Prepare the frosting. Color the frosting with food coloring, if desired.

      Remove the cakes from the pans. Place the square cake on a platter, oriented to look like a diamond; one of the corners should be pointed toward you.
