Heart-Shaped Cake Directions
Few tokens of love are as enthusiastically welcomed as baked goods. Figuring out how to shape a cake may be confusing, but the process is quite straightforward. Home bakers can buy heart-shaped cake pans to facilitate the project. However, there are also basic techniques you can use to shape a heart cake using square and round cake pans. Things You'll Need
- Prepared cake batter
- Frosting
- Food coloring or dye, if needed
- 8-inch round cake pan
- 8-inch square cake pan
- Knife
- Offset spatula
- Piping bag with decorating tips

Pour cake batter into each cake pan and bake following the recipe's instruction.

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool thoroughly.

Prepare the frosting. Color the frosting with food coloring, if desired.

Remove the cakes from the pans. Place the square cake on a platter, oriented to look like a diamond; one of the corners should be pointed toward you.

Cut the round cake in half. Place each half adjacent to one of the top, diagonal edges of the square/diamond-shaped cake.

Frost the cake with an offset spatula or piping bag. Embellish as desired.

Tips & Warnings
You may want to apply a light layer of icing to the sides of the square cake to which the half-circles will be joined. The icing may help the cake stay together better.
