3-D text in images may look better if the image is 3-D.

You can take several approaches to insert text in images, in both Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. One approach is to draw the text over inserted images. Another is to insert text boxes over images. Regardless of the approach you use, the desired goal of inserting text in an image is a more comprehensible image. To make sure the text is clearly visible, make the color contrast with that of the image. To make the text appear three dimensional, insert WordArt over the image.

Instructions

  1. Draw the Text

    • 1

Open Word or PowerPoint, then click the "Insert" tab.

    • 2

Click the "Picture" button, then navigate to a picture on your hard drive that you'd like to insert text into.

    • 3

      Double-click the picture.

    • 4

Click the "Shapes" button on the toolbar, then click the "Freeform" tool. With this tool you can draw any shape, including shapes that look like text.

    • 5

Click the mouse on the image you inserted earlier. This places the first point of the first character of the text that you'll draw.

    • 6

Drag the mouse to create the shape of the first letter of the text you want to insert. For example, if you want to insert the text "My Summer Vacation," begin drawing the "M" in "My" by dragging the mouse directly up or down to produce the first segment of the letter "M."

    • 7

Click the mouse to complete the first segment of the first letter. Repeat the previous step and this step to complete the remaining segments of the remaining letters.

    • 8

Double-click the mouse to release the freeform tool when your text is complete.

    Text Box

    • 9

Open Word or PowerPoint, then click the "Picture" button of the "Insert" tab.

    • 10

Navigate to the image on your PC that you'd like to insert text in.

    • 11

Double-click the image to open it.

    • 12

Click the "Text box" button on the toolbar.

    • 13

Drag a selection region over the image you inserted to define the text box.

    • 14

Right-click the text box, then click "Format."

    • 15

Click the "Line style" link in the left pane.

    • 16

Click the top arrow of the right pane's "Width" control until the control says "2pt." This increases the thickness of the line surrounding the text box, which makes the box easier to see and position.

    • 17

Click "OK" to close the formatting dialog box.

    • 18

Type the text you'd like to insert into the image. Click outside the text box when you are done writing.

    • 19

Drag the green circle above the text box until the text is rotated to the orientation you want.
