How to Remove a Fuzzy Area in GIMP
If you have a collection of old, damaged photos you want to repair, you don't have to hire a professional.
For example, you might have a photo that has a smudged, fuzzy spot on it caused by dampness. With the tools of the freeware application GIMP, you can quickly repair this problem yourself.

Scan the photo you want to fix and save the file to your computer.

Start the GIMP application. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate and open the photo.

Select the "Clone" tool from the toolbar. In the tool options, choose one of the "Fuzzy" brushes. Hold down the "CTRL" key on your keyboard and click on an area near (but not on) the fuzzy area you want to remove.

Click on the fuzzy area and paint over it. The program will use the pixels you selected to do this. Save your work.
