How to Make a Sno Cone Costume

Coming up with a new Halloween costume idea is often difficult. Yet, wearing something different than everyone else at the party or for trick-or-treating is a popular concept. Not many other people will dress up as a Sno Cone, a costume that will evoke humor and nostalgia. Although you can purchase a Sno Cone costume, making a homemade one is fun and much less expensive.

Things You'll Need

  • White felt or fleece
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Safety pins
  • Paint or ink markers
  • Clown wig
  • Colorful hat, optional
  • White baby bunting, optional
  • White baby blanket, optional
  • White one-piece baby outfit, optional
  • Baby bib
  • Baby stocking cap

Child or Adult Costume

  • Measure the intended costume-wearer from the neck to below the knees. Double the measurement to determine the length needed for the costume. Measure across the shoulders as well, allowing for about 8 extra inches.

  • Fold the felt or fleece fabric in half at the intended shoulder area to create a front and back of the costume. Cut the fabric according to the measurements figured in Step 1. Do not cut along the shoulder fold line.

  • Fold the already-folded fabric in half from shoulder to shoulder. Draw a V shape at the center of the fold, about 6 inches wide and 4 inches from the fold to the tip of the V. Cut the fabric through all the layers on the marked V shape. Adjust the markings and cuts to create a smaller neck hole if the costume is for a child.

  • Unfold the fabric and slip the costume over the shoulders of the intended wearer. Use safety pins to fasten the sides together in two or three places, beginning below the arms. Have the wearer take the costume off.

  • Lay the costume on a flat work surface. Fold the costume in half, from shoulder to shoulder. Make a pencil mark at the bottom fold line, which is the center of the bottom edge of the costume. Draw a slanting line from the center fold to about 2 feet up, ending along the sides of the costume. Cut along the line to form a pointed Sno Cone cup effect.

  • Use paint or ink markers to draw Sno Cones on the costume. Print the words, "SNO CONE" or the names of flavors on the costume, if desired.

  • Finish the costume look with a rainbow or solid color clown wig to look like the top of the flavored ice. Substitute a colorful hat instead of a wig, if desired.

Baby Costume

  • Wrap a white bunting or baby blanket around the baby. Consider a white one-piece outfit instead, so baby can move her arms and legs easily.

  • Put a tie-on hat onto the baby. Use a hat that is the same color as the flavor written on the bib. For a rainbow sno cone, use a striped hat with at least two or three colors.

  • Cut several small felt sno cone shapes from white felt. Use fabric or ink markers to

color the rounded top of the sno cone different colors to represent flavors. Pin the felt sno cones onto the baby costume.
