How to Draw a Sand Crocodile

Draw a crocodile that snaps out of the sand.

Crocodiles are dangerous creatures that live in swamps, lakes and sandy banks. Drawing a sand crocodile is no different than drawing a normal crocodile -- you only have to color a sandy glow afterward. When drawing sand crocodiles, what is important to emphasize is the jagged, rough texture of the crocodile. The crocodile jaw is large and sharp, so make sure you include ferocious spiky teeth. This is what will really make your sand crocodile snap out of the paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the outline of your crocodile body. Draw an egg shape for the head and a long oval shape for the body. When creating the tail, draw two curved lines that come off the oval and swirl into a point. Cutting through the middle of the egg-shaped head, draw a wiggly line to create the start of the crocodile jaw.

    • 2

Define the crocodile jaw. The jaw is an important part of the drawing, so use the wiggly line as the template for your crocodile mouth. Draw above and below the wiggly line to create the mouth. Draw small triangles all along the line to create sharp teeth. At the end of the line, draw a round bump and draw two lines to create the nostrils of the crocodile. Bring the line into the top of the head and draw a small circle that pokes out of the egg shape to create the eye.

    • 3

Draw two lines that stick out from right hand side of the body. At the end of the lines, draw a star shape. Broaden these lines to create two stumpy, trunk-like legs with star-shaped claws for the crocodile's feet. Only two legs are needed to be shown as the perspective of the crocodile you are drawing is from the side.

Following the jaw line, draw a chunky neck that reaches into the body of the crocodile. Add jagged wrinkle lines down the center of the back of the crocodile body. Draw jagged, spiky lines coming off the tail of the crocodile.

    • 5

Add details to the crocodile, outline your final drawing lines and erase any stray lines.

    • 6

Color in your crocodile. This is when you can differentiate your crocodile from a sand crocodile. Draw your crocodile in a sandy yellow or beige. Add shades of brown in the creases and wrinkles of the crocodile.

Tips & Warnings

  • Emphasize the skin on a crocodile. This is when you can make the sand effect come alive.
