How to Read Saved Conversations in AIM

Instant message conversations in AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) can be saved for future reading when they are saved as a text file on your computer. In AIM, saved chats are stored in the log manager that keeps track of the program's messages and provides a user-friendly setup for time-saving navigation through multiple chat logs Selected chat logs are opened in AIM, and appear in plain-text formatting.

Instructions

AIM for PC

1. Double-click the AIM icon on the desktop or click the Windows icon. Click "All Programs" and "AOL Instant Messenger."

2. Click "File" at the top of the AIM program's window, and click "Open." Locate the folder that stores the program's log files, and double-click the folder's name to access the logs.

3. Click the log's filename, and click "Open" in the bottom-right corner of the "Open a File" window. The saved chat conversation can be viewed while you are logged into your AIM account or offline.

4. Click "X" in the top-right corner to close the log.

AIM for Mac

1. Click the "Go" menu at the top of the desktop, and click "Applications." Double-click "AIM" to launch the messenger application.

2. Click the "People" menu at the top of the desktop, and click "View IM Log."

3. Double-click the saved conversation's filename to view it in a browser window.
