How to Combine MKV Files for Free

MKV files are video files. It is a compressed, high-quality video format. It is also called Matroska. If you have different videos in MKV format, you may want to make one video out of these. To do this you will need a dedicated program. The most popular program for combining MKV files is MKVToolnix. MKVToolnix is an open-source program which is available for free. It can be installed on a Mac, Windows or a Unix operating system.

  • MKVToolnix
  • Install MKVToolnix. The program is available for free at the official website. It is a small program and the installation files are directly hosted on the developer's website for download

  • Add the MKV files you want to combine. Go to the "Input" tab after launching the installed program and select the MKV files on your hard disk. Click "Add" to load the first file. The first MKV file will appear inside a lower box on the interface. Click "Append" to load subsequent files. These will appear below the first file on the lower box.

  • Arrange the MKV files. Use the "Up" and "Down" buttons to move the added files until they appear in the sequence in which you want them combined.

  • Specify an output folder. This is the target folder where the combined MKV file will be transferred. You can also specify the name for the output file.

  • Combine the MKV files. Click "Start Muxing" to start the splicing process. The combined file will be dropped in the output folder when the "muxing" is done.
