Keyloggers record keyboard strokes and can accurate recall which keys were pressed by a computer user as well as in what order. Keyloggers can be hardware or software. Hardware keyloggers are installed between the keyboard and the computer (CPU). Software keyloggers are computer viruses capable of capturing data inputted or keys pressed. This latter type of keyloggers is more popular and more malicious. Such keyloggers can reap user data by stealing identities and financial information while running without on your computer without authorization.

Shut down your computer. Removing hardware keyloggers while the computer is still running can cause irreversible damage.

Remove the keylogger. Hardware keyloggers are small devices sitting between the cord of the keyboard and the connection to the computer.

Connect the keyboard cord directly to the back of the computer.
Software Keyloggers

Kill all suspicious programs from the Task Manager. You can get to the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Delete and selecting "Start Task Manager" on the follow-up window.

Scan your computer with an anti-virus program. Chances are that the anti-virus program installed on your computer is either out-of-date or ineffective. So, update your anti-virus program or download a new one before you start the scan. Remove all infections discovered after the scan.

Scan your computer with an anti-malware program. There are free anti-malware programs for download. Get one such and install it. Remove all infections after the scan.

Restart your computer.Scan again with the anti-virus and anti-malware program. If no infections pop up in the scan results then you can be sure all keyloggers are removed.
