How to Style a Kinky Twist

Kinky twists are created in a similar manner as braids. However, the twists are started by braiding, but in the middle the hair is twisted. The style is ideal for any woman looking to transition from relaxers to a more natural look. The twists give a fuller look, which can be appealing to women with thin hair. To keep the twists full, they should not be curled with curling irons, which can flatter hair. There are two methods to style the twists without losing any of the fullness. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Water Method

    • 1

Fill the saucepan at least halfway with water. Bring the water to boil.

    • 2

Roll two or three stands around each roller starting with the front and continuing until all of the hair has been put into a roller. Place the ends of the strands and roll up two or three times. Do not roll your hair too close to your scalp. You may need a friend to help roll the hair in the back.

    • 3

Remove the saucepan from the water and place on a trivet. Select a surface that allows you to reach the saucepan when seated without straining.

    • 4

Sit next to the saucepan. Dip three or four of the rollers of your hair into the water. Leave the rollers in the water for at least 30 seconds. Keep the other hair out of your way with the hair clips.

    • 5

Remove hair from water and lightly squeeze to remove any excess water. Continue with other rollers until all of the hair has been curled.

    • 6

Allow the curls to dry. Once dry, remove the rollers. The heat and water allow the rollers to mold to the shape of the roller. By the time the hair has dried, it has been formed into a curl. Loosen the curls with your fingers until you have reached your desired look.

    • 7

Style the newly curled kinky twist in a ponytail or leave down for a more relaxed look.

    Dryer Method

    • 8

Rub the curling gel onto the ends. Do not use too much of the gel. The ends should be slightly damp and not soaked by the gel.

    • 9

Fill the spray bottle with water. Spritz the ends of the twists until they are damp.

    • 10

Roll two or three twists into a roll from end to root. Continue until all of the hair has been rolled.

    • 11

Sit under the dryer until the twists are dry.

    • 12

Remove curls. Loosen the curls with your fingers and not a comb. A comb may cause the hair to frizz.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not allow your skin to get too close to the saucepan. The heat of the saucepan can burn skin.

  • Do not place fingers into the water. The water can burn the skin.
