How to Do a Remote Folder Sync

Syncing files and folders remotely allows you to share files and keep them up to date on two computers over a shared network connection. This setup also reduces the hassle of having to manually copy files and folders over to an external hard drive or thumb drive every time you want to transfer files between computers. By using the built-in syncing tool in Microsoft Windows called Briefcase, you can sync your folders over your network remotely.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click on your desktop and select "New" and "Briefcase."

    • 2

Copy the folders you wish to sync into the Briefcase.

    • 3

Copy the Briefcase over to the second computer by clicking on the Start menu and selecting "Network." Browse to the computer you wish to sync with and right-click and paste the Briefcase onto the computer.

    • 4

Sync the files and folders in the Briefcase at any time by right-clicking on the Briefcase and selecting "Update All."
