Save

Harmful files such as "avp.exe" conceal themselves as innocuous program files. The benign "avp.exe" file belongs to the Kaspersky Internet Security Suite, which guards your system against malicious adware and viruses. However, if you do not have Kaspersky installed on your system, the "avp.exe" is definitely an infection. This infection can install other spyware and create a backdoor for hackers. Even if the file is a component of Kaspersky, it can sometimes malfunction, causing system lagging. Fortunately, you can use simple manual procedures to get rid of "avp.exe" and return your computer to its normal operation.

  • Click "Start" followed by "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" and "System Restore." Choose "Recommended restore," and then click "Next." Click "Finish" to begin the restoration. Allow your computer to reboot.

  • Reboot your computer. Press "F8" before the Windows logo screen appears. Use the arrow keys to scroll down to "Safe mode," and then press "Enter."

  • Press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" at the same time. This will launch the "Windows Task Manager." Open the "Processes" tab. Select "avp.exe" if it is under the list of processes. Click "End Process," and then exit "Windows Task Manager."

  • Click "Start." Type "msconfig" in the search box, and then press "Enter." Open the "Startup" tab. Place a check next to "avp.exe" if you see it under the list of "Startup" apps. Click "Apply" followed by "OK" and "Restart." Repeat the instructions in Step 2 to launch "Safe mode" again.

  • Click "Start" followed by "Computer." Navigate to the following folder directories one at a time:

    C:\Windows\System32\avp.exe

    C:\Windows\System32\avp.bat
