However, Skype also includes other features such as instant messaging text communications. If you use Skype instant messaging for business or other purposes and would like to keep a record of text chat sessions for future reference, use the Windows Explorer "Copy" feature to back up chat sessions.

Instructions

      Click the "Start" button on the Windows 7 taskbar and click "Computer." Double-click on the "C:" drive and then navigate to the "\Users\login_account_username\AppData\Roaming" directory, except replace "login_account_username" with the name of the account used to log in to the computer.

      Right-click on the "Skype" directory that is located in the "Roaming" window and click "Copy."

      Plug a USB drive into an open USB port on the computer.

      Click the "Start" button on the Windows 7 taskbar and click "Computer," and then double-click on the USB drive icon located in the "Computer" window that appears.

      Right-click on empty space in the USB drive windows that opens, and click "Paste" in the drop-down menu. A copy of the files will be placed on the USB drive as backup.
