How to Make a GIF Bigger Proportionately

Enlarging a Graphics Interlace Format (GIF) picture proportionately allows you to make the picture bigger without distorting it. When enlarging a GIF picture proportionately, you enlarge both its width and its height by the same ratio. GIF is an image format which is particularly popular among web developers since it lets you create pictures with a small file size which load quickly on average Internet connections. You can enlarge a GIF picture proportionately in just a few steps.

  • Open your Windows Start Menu and click on "All Programs." Click on "Accessories" to open the folder and click on "Paint." Paint is a free graphics editor from Microsoft which you can find in all versions of the Windows operating system.

  • Click on the "Paint" menu at the top of the window and select "Open" to locate and open the GIF file which you want to enlarge.

  • Click on the "Resize" button on the "Home" toolbar.

  • Click the "Maintain aspect ratio" check box.

  • Enter a new percentage value either in the "Width" or "Height" fields under the "Resize" category. For example, if you enter a value of "150" in the "Width" field, Paint will enlarge your picture by 150 percent. Since you have chosen to maintain the picture's aspect ratio, you do not need to fill in both fields. Paint will automatically calculate the value of the second field based on what you typed in the first one.

  • Save your file by pressing the "CTRL" and "S" keys simultaneously on your keyboard.
