To delete the DOS partition on a removable disk in Windows XP, use the Windows XP Disk Management tools. Using the disk management tools, the user is able to delete, create and manage partitions on hard drives and removable drives. Connect the removable drive to the computer by plugging in the drive or USB connector cable for the drive. Windows XP will recognize the drive as a removable drive and assign the drive a drive letter in the file system.

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel."

Click "Performance and Management" and then click "Administrative Tools."

Click the "Computer Management" option and then click "Storage."

Click "Disk Management." The Disk Management tool launches.

Right-click on the partition and click "Delete Partition." The DOS partition is deleted from the removable drive.
