How to Make Easy Paper Robots

Save

Toy robots are exciting to play with, and can be even more exciting to construct out of materials that can be found around your home or office, such as paper boxes and paper tubes. This can allow your child to make his own customized robot that he can paint and decorate with craft supplies to look like it is made out of metal. Not only will this encourage an interest in robots, but will bring hours of fun to your child without costing a lot of money.

Things You'll Need

  • Cardboard boxes, various sizes
  • Paper towel tubes
  • Wrapping paper tubes
  • Scissors
  • Duct tape
  • Squeezable craft paint
  • Metallic spray paint
  • Stack three to four cardboard boxes on top of each other in the form that you want the robot to be, and tape them together with duct tape.

  • Place paper towel tubes vertically around one of the cardboard boxes, taping them in place with duct tape. Repeat with each box. This will disguise the angular shape of the boxes, and will make them appear more industrial.

  • Tape a wrapping paper tube on either side of the form using duct tape. If the wrapping paper tubes are longer than the body of the robot, cut the tubes to size using scissors. These will be the robot's arms.

  • Add details to the robot using squeezable craft paint. Create facial features, buttons, gears or screws. Squeezable craft paint will appear puffy, and will stick out from the paper tubing. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes.

  • Spray the entire paper robot using metallic spray paint. This will make the robot look like it was constructed out of metal pieces. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes before playing with the robot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Spray paint the robot in a well ventilated area.
