How to Reset the IP Address With AT&T U-Verse

Every time your computer connects to the Internet you are assigned an IP address. This number is used for identification. It is a way for your Internet service provider (along with the sites you visit and the services you use) to differentiate your machine from all others. If you want to reset the IP address you've been assigned on your AT&T U-Verse connection, you can do so in a very specific way. Does this Spark an idea?

      Click "Start" on your computer.

      Type "cmd.exe" into the "Search" box and press "Enter". This will open a new command prompt window on your monitor.

      Type the words "IPCONFIG / Release" (with no quotes) into the command prompt and hit "Enter." This will release your current IP address with your AT&T U-Verse connection. This may cause your Internet connection to temporarily disable itself.

      Type the words "IPCONFIG / Renew" (with no quotes) into the command prompt and hit "Enter." This will assign a new IP address to your AT&T U-Verse modem.
