How to Make a Smooth Outer Glow in Illustrator

Illustrator is vector graphics software from Adobe corporation. It is widely used in industry and art to produce a range of documents. While Illustrator is not useful for editing raster images like Photoshop is, it can still add a variety of effects to the vector objects you create. For example, it is easy to add an outer glow effect to the objects you create in Illustrator.

  • Open Illustrator. Select "File" from the menu at the top and choose "Open." In the dialog box that appears, locate and open a file containing an object to which you would like to add a "glow" effect.

  • Select "Effect" from the menu and choose "Blur." From the options, choose "Gaussian Blur." A dialog box will open.

  • Adjust the "Radius" slider until you like the preview in the dialog box. Click "OK" and save your work.
