How to Use the Markup Editor in MS Word '07
Microsoft Word 2007 offers a markup editor, which lets you edit another person's Word document without changing the original version. Your changes -- inserting text, deleting text, changing format -- will appear in colored text. The feature, officially called "Track Changes," notes any format changes in the right margin, presents anything you type in red ink and crosses out or moves to the margin anything you delete. To use this feature, you simply turn it on and then edit the document.

Tips & Warnings
If it bothers you to see all the colored text, lines and cross-outs or bubbles in the margins, you can hide these visual features while still using the markup editor. Click the "Review" tab, click the field that says "Final Showing Markup," then select "Final" from the drop-down menu.
