How to Set the MIDI Controller to Fruity Loops

MIDI controllers allow you to input musical data within FL Studio so that you do not have to use your mouse along with the internal step sequencer. Image-Line's FL Studio, previously known as "Fruity Loops," provides multi-track audio recording and software instrument sequencing within a single user interface. By installing the MIDI controller's drivers, then configuring the device within the FL Studio's "MIDI Settings" screen, you can record note and automation information with real-time performance.

Plug one end of the USB cable into the back of your MIDI controller, then plug the other end into an available USB port on your computer. Wait for the device to be recognized by Windows before continuing.

Launch FL Studio by double-clicking on the icon on your desktop. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Image-Line" and then select "FL Studio" if a desktop icon was not created during installation.

    • 4

Access FL Studio's MIDI Settings. Click "Options," then "MIDI Settings" from the top of the screen. Alternatively, press the "F10" key on your computer keyboard to access this screen.

    • 6

Exit the MIDI settings screen, then test your controller. Press a key on your MIDI keyboard and verify that MIDI information is being displayed in the "Info Area" window at the top of the screen. The note being played, along with the velocity, will be shown in this window.

Tips & Warnings

  • Click "Rescan MIDI Devices" at the bottom-left corner of the "MIDI Settings" screen if your controller's name is not given as an option for selection.

  • Reinstall your device's drivers and verify that connections have been properly made if your MIDI controller still does not appear in the list after rescanning MIDI devices.
