How to Convert a PDF to ODT in Ubuntu

Save

The Ubuntu operating system now comes standard with the LibreOffice application suite. LibreOffice includes Writer, a word processor that uses the ODT file format as the default format to save documents. In the past, users had to get a special extension for LibreOffice to use PDFs. However, importing PDFs now comes as a native feature of the software suite. Once imported into LibreOffice, you can convert the PDF to a different format.

  • Open LibreOffice Writer.

  • Click the "File" menu. Click "Open."

  • Navigate to the PDF file you want to convert, click it and click "Open."

  • Click the "File" menu and select "Save As."

  • Click the "File Type" menu and select "ODT."

  • Click "Save."

Tips & Warnings

  • Not all PDFs import and convert with proper formatting. If you have problems, you can manually edit the files or download third-party software to perform the conversion.
