When arrested for suspicion of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol (DUI), you must report to court to answer the charges. The court in the county of the arrest has jurisdiction over the case and keeps a record of all of the files at the county's clerk of court office. All criminal court records are public record, viewable by anyone, with the exception of case where the defendant is a juvenile. To view the records related to a DUI case in California, you must visit the clerk of court office for the county in which the DUI occurred.

Locate the address of the clerk of court for the county in which the DUI occurred. A list of all of the California court clerks can be found on the California courts information website.

Visit the criminal division of the clerk of court for the county in which the DUI occurred.

Provide the clerk with the case number or the name of the defendant. The clerk will search for and allow you to view the records from a secure room. If you would like copies of all or a portion of the records, you must pay the clerk of court a per page fee. The clerk of courts office typically accepts cash, check or money order. If copies are needed, call the clerk's office in advance to inquire about their fee.
