Instructions

1
Measure the area where you want to place the awning. The width is what you need. So take a tape measure across the part of the wall, window or door over which the awning will be built.
-
2
Buy an awning material a little wider than the dimension measured. Awning material can be canvas or plastic. Wood awnings take some skill to install and unless you are a professional, canvas and plastic will do.

-
3
Sew a hem in the edge of the canvas. This can be done with a sewing machine or by hand with a large needle.
-
4
Drill two pilot holes into the wall where the corners of the awning will be.
-
5
Insert screw hooks into the holes.
-
6
Place key rings on each of the screw hooks. Make sure to put the key rings through grommets before placing them on the hooks.
-
7
Set up two poles to serve as stands for the awning. The grommets should fit over both poles and the canvas should stretch between the two poles.
-
8
Ground the awning by tying two sections rope from the grommets to the poles. Stake the two free ends of the rope to the ground on either side of the poles.
