How to Unlock My Wireless Broadband Router

Most wireless networks are configured with a password or WEP key to keep them secure. Without knowing the wireless password or WEP key, a user cannot connect to the wireless network. This may not be a desirable state for the wireless network to be in. For example, many businesses run open wireless hotspots for their clients. You can unlock a wireless broadband router to give wireless access to anyone within range of the wireless signal.

  • Open a Web browser.

  • Type "" (without quotes) into the address bar, then press "Enter."

  • Type the router's user name and password, then press "Enter." Common combinations are "admin" for the username and "password" for the password, or a blank username and "admin" for the password.

  • Click the "Wireless" link.

  • Click the "Security" link.

  • Change the setting to "Disabled." This unlocks the router and makes the wireless access open.
