How to Chat on Facebook on the Computer

Facebook has become one of the most popular social networking sites. Users can post regular status updates, join groups, promote their projects or chat with friends through Facebook's built-in instant messenger. If your friends have Facebook accounts and log in regularly, you can chat with them and maintain an easy method of contact.

Instructions

1. Log into your Facebook account.

2. Look at the bottom left of your homepage. You should see a group of your friends' profile pictures. The small colored square inside each thumbnail shows that friend's status: green means he or she is available to chat and light blue means he or she is idle.

3. Click the thumbnail icon of the friend you want to chat with. A chat window will open in the lower right of the screen.

4. Type your message and press "Enter." Holding "Shift" and pressing "Enter" inserts a line break.
