How to Create Logos With Fireworks
A logo is one of the most important creations for a new or existing business. There are three main logo types: text logo, graphic logo and combination text and graphic. The type of logo style you use depends upon the look you want. For most businesses, however, a simple text logo can get you by in a pinch and, for some, can be a successful permanent logo option.
Instructions

1
Load the Fireworks CS5 application. A Fireworks screen will load, allowing you open or create a new file. Click on "Fireworks Document (PNG)" to the right under the Create New menu area.
-
2
Choose the appropriate dimensions for your new logo. Begin by entering the following dimensions into the New Document window: Width = 800 pixels, Height = 425 pixels, Resolution = 72 pixels/inch. Choose the radio button option "Transparent" as the Canvas Color; click the "OK" button to continue. The canvas size can be changed later if it requires adjusting.

-
3
Click the "Text Tool" from the tool box on the left to activate it, then click anywhere inside your empty canvas area. Type the name of your company.
-
4
Adjust the formatting of your text with the Text menu options from the top navigation bar. Choose the Text >> Font menu option to change font type. The Text >> Size option will adjust the size of your logo on the canvas, and Text >> Style will bold or italicize the text.
-
5
Activate the "Pointer Tool" from the left tool box. Select your new text to highlight and activate it. Use the Color selector tool from the left tool box and adjust the Fill Options to Gradient Linear using Web colors #0099CC and #003333. Your logo now should have a soft gradient look.
-
6
Activate the "Ellipse Tool" from the left tool box. Draw a long narrow oval on the canvas, overlapping half of the text. Fill the oval with Web color #FFFFFF, adjusting the opacity to 25 percent.
-
7
Active the "Pointer Tool" and select your text. Type Ctrl + C to copy the selection, and Ctrl + V to paste. You now will have a duplicate copy of your text. Select the new text with the Pointer Tool and choose "Modify" >> "Transform" >> "Flip Vertical" from the top menu bar.
-
8
Position the flipped text so it falls just underneath the original text. Adjust the Fill Options to Web color #003333 on both ends. Set the bottom edge to a 0 percent opacity. Adjust the gradient position bar so only the top edge of the text shows color.
-
9
To give the logo a polished look, create a rectangle underneath the text and reflection using the Rectangle Tool. Make the rectangle just larger than the text. Using the Color Tool, adjust the Fill Options to Gradient Linear, using Web color #FFFFFF on the top, and Web color #999999 on the bottom.

Tips & Warnings
A resolution of 72 pixels per inch is a common resolution for Web graphics. For logos that will be used for professional print purposes, such as letterhead, brochures and magazine or newspaper advertisements, a resolution of 300 pixels per inch is much more appropriate. Contact your publisher if you are unsure of the resolution requirements for professional documents.
