How to Make Your Shoe Strings Look Good
Making your shoe strings look good can help enhance the look of your shoes. Overtime your shoe strings can get dirty and look old which can make your shoes look shabby. While buying new shoe strings is one method for keeping your shoes looking fresh, taking your existing ones and giving them a little work is also useful. Buy a color of dye that goes with the shoes the strings are for. If your shoes have a lot of colors on them select one of these colors. If your shoes are all one color select a color that is in the same family but a different shade, such as dark purple to go with light purple shoes. If you like the color of shoe strings use a dye that is the same color to refresh them.

Measure out water to mix your dye in using the specific measurements that your dye brand requires. Set the water on high heat in a pot on your stove and wait for it to boil. Pour in dye and mix with your metal tongs.

Set the dye mix on very low heat and let it cool off for 5 minutes. Place shoe strings in the mixture using the tongs and let them sit for at least 5 minutes or longer if the dye directions recommend it.

Remove the strings with your tongs and place them on paper towels to dry. Do not lace shoes with strings until they are dry which can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours depending on the thickness of your shoe strings.

Tips & Warnings
For white laces that have become dirty place them in a bowl of bleach and leave them for an hour. Remove and rinse under water and allow to dry.
