How to Use a Glass Stirring Rod

Save

Glass stirring rods are primarily used in science laboratories for chemistry or biology experiements. Because the glass is thick, unaffected by heat or cold and will not react to chemicals like some metals will, it is an ideal solution for stirring chemicals and other substances together.

  • Use a glass stirring rod to stir a liquid in a flask or beaker.

  • Spread liquids, gels or other materials across a surface such as a petri dish with a glass rod. The rod prevents any reaction from occuring before the substance is spread.

  • Stir cocktails with a glass stirring rod, it makes a perfect swizzle stick.

  • Transfer drops of one item to a piece of paper such as litmus using a glass stirring rod. A hollow rod can both stir and suck up liquids as needed.
