How to Use AeroPress As a French Press
The AeroPress, sold as an alternative to traditional French presses, claims to create fresher, tastier coffee than a traditional French press. If you wish to use your AeroPress like a French press, you can use hotter water and coarser coffee grounds so that the end flavor is more similar to coffee than water. Though you cannot use your AeroPress in exactly the same manner as a French press, you can create a similar end result if you mix the coffee from your AeroPress with an equal amount of hot water. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Set a coffee cup or mug on a flat, dry surface such as a table. The mug should have a capacity of at least 1 1/2 cups.
-
2
Grasp the plunger of the AeroPress and pull it upward. Grasp the cap at the bottom of the chamber, and place a filter into the chamber.
-
-
3
Set the cap against the bottom of the chamber and turn it clockwise to tighten it.
-
4
Place the AeroPress chamber on top of the mug so that it rests inside the mug.
-
5
Grasp the AeroPress scoop and use it to insert two scoops of ground coffee into the chamber.
-
6
Heat about 1/2 cup of water in a glass or plastic container. Pour this water into the chamber until it reaches the printed number "2." The water should be between 175 and 212 F. Use hotter water for coffee more similar in taste to traditional French press coffee.
-
7
Stir the water and coffee with a spoon for at least 10 seconds.
-
8
Slide the plunger into the chamber. Place your hand on the top of the plunger and push downward so that the plunger depresses by about 1/4 inch. Continue pushing the plunger downward slowly until it pushes all of the coffee into the mug.
-
9
Remove the press from the coffee mug and mix the coffee with about 1 cup of hot water.
