How to Get a Marksman Up in "Oblivion"

In Bethesda's "Oblivion," 21 different skills govern the strengths and weaknesses of your character. The skills range from combat to luck, and your predetermined attributes determine them. One such skill is Marksmanship, which dictates your adeptness with the bow and arrow. Marksmanship is a bit more difficult to increase than other skills because it requires specific and intentional training. The governing attribute of the Marksman is Agility, so a high Agility score will help speed up your training significantly.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the bow as your primary weapon. The easiest way to level your Marksman ability is to equip the bow and fight easier enemies. Scamps, rats and other dungeon-dwelling creatures are a good start.

    • 2

Find the Marksman books. Only five books will permanently increase your Marksman skill: "A Dance in the Fire - v5," "The Gold Ribbon of Merit," "Father of the Niben," "The Black Arrow - v2" and "Vernaccus and Bourlor."

    • 3

Train with Alawen once you have reached a skill level of 70. Alawen is a Master Marksman Trainer. She is located at the Troll Candle Camp, south of the Gold Road between Kvatch and Anvil. If you bring her an Elven Bow, she will train with you.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Marksman skill is increased only when you hit a living target. Although the targets around the training camps or in the Arena may help you increase your accuracy, they will not count toward your Marksman skill.
