How to Convert a Vector Image Into a Bitmap in Illustrator. You can convert a vector image into a bitmap in Adobe Illustrator. Once converted, you can apply various filters and special effects to the image. These instructions apply to Adobe Illustrator 8. Procedures for other versions may vary.

Step 1

Select the image you want to convert. (Click on the Selection Tool to activate it and then click on the image.)

From the Objects menu, click on Rastorize. A window appears.

Step 3

Select your color model and resolution.

Click to put a check mark if you want to anti-alias or to make a mask.

Step 5

Click OK. The image rasterizes (that is, it converts to a bitmap).
