How to Juice a Honeydew Melon

Save

The honeydew melon, or Cucumis melo, has a sweet and juicy pale-green flesh and is similar in texture to the cantaloupe. It is rich in vitamin C and other vitamins and minerals, and has a firm white or yellow rind. Enjoy the sweet flavor and nutritional benefits of the honeydew melon by consuming it as a juice. Juicing improves the bioavailability of the honeydew melon's nutrients and promotes healthy bowel movements.

  • Wash the uncut honeydew melon under running water to remove any dirt. This will prevent the transfer of bacteria from the rind of the melon to the flesh when you cut it.

  • Use a kitchen knife to cut the melon into halves. You can peel and discard the rind, or keep the rind on the melon and juice it. Scoop out the seeds and fiber strings from the surface of the melon with a teaspoon. Slice the melon into thin 1/4-inch cubes.

  • Place the cut melon cubes in a blender to juice. Add 1/4 cup of water to dilute the thick juice. Run the blender on high speed for three minutes, or until the melon achieves a smooth, juicy consistency.

  • Enhance the flavor of honeydew juice by adding 1 tsp. of lime juice just before serving.

Tips & Warnings

  • Select honeydew melons that exude a sweet aroma, have a soft texture and feel heavy for their size. (See Resources 1 and 2; References 3)
