How to Change the Order of the Mailboxes on an iPhone

Save

iPhone users can link different types of email accounts to their phone, including those by Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL and Microsoft Exchange. Within the iPhone email software, you can read mail, delete it and organize it into different folders. However, if you have several different mailboxes within an account and want to change the order of these, you must do so by opening the full mail provider website in a browser. You can do this on your desktop at home or using Safari on your iPhone.

  • Log into your email account using a web browser.

  • Go to your account and follow the relevant instructions from your email provider to change the order of your mailboxes. You will either have to go into your account settings to do this, or use a "drag and drop" method. The mailboxes might have different names depending on your email provider. For example, in Google they are called "Labels;" AOL refers to the folders in your "Personal Filing Cabinet."

  • Close the browser once you have rearranged the mailboxes into the order in which you want them to appear on your iPhone and saved any changes you've made.

  • Open the email program on your iPhone by clicking the envelope signal in the bottom bar.

  • Click on the "Refresh" button, which is a circle and an arrow, and your mailboxes should update in the new order. If this doesn't happen immediately, try turning your iPhone off and on again, allowing the email software to reset.
