    • 1

Remove wrappers from the desired quantity of Mini Kisses and place into a microwave-safe bowl.

    • 2

Insert the bowl into a microwave oven and heat on medium power.

    • 3

Heat until melted, stirring every 15 seconds to avoid burning.

    Melting Mini Kisses with Shortening

    • 4

Add shortening to the melting process using a ratio of 1-3/4 cups, or one 10-ounce package, of Mini Kisses to two tablespoons of shortening.

    • 5

Remove wrappers from the chocolate pieces. Combine chocolate and shortening in a microwave-safe bowl and cook at medium power for one minute, then stir.

    • 6

If complete melting has not occurred, microwave at the same power using 15 second increments, stirring after each heating.

    • 7

Stop heating chocolate when the mixture has a smooth consistency while stirring.

Tips & Warnings

  • If possible, melt chocolate on cool, dry days using tools that are completely dry. Even water from humidity in the air can make your chocolate stiffen. If you begin to see droplets of condensation forming in your mixture, add shortening to your melting chocolate as described above.
