Poems are a good way to express appreciation to a friend.

One good way to express your admiration for a dear friend is to write that person a poem. You want your message to be sincere, thoughtful and humorous. To make it even more personal, create a handwritten poem and put it on decorative writing paper. Write out your thoughts about the friend and organize those thoughts before writing the final draft of your poem.

Instructions

    • 1

Mention specific things you appreciate about your friend. If your friend helped you get out of an emotionally abusive relationship, state how she helped you decide not to allow yourself to stay in a manipulative situation. Or if your friend always tells you when you are not being your best, tell him you are glad he's there to look out for your well-being even when you don't always like the advice.

    • 2

Customize the poem. For example, if your friend enjoys fresh fruit and nuts, cut out small pictures of fruit and nuts from recent issues of magazines you have at home and paste them at the top of or underneath the poem. Or if your friend visits Europe often, draw medium-sized pictures of Europe-related items such as specific European flags, cups of coffee or hillsides and castles.

    • 3

Avoid flowery or overly sentimental language in the poem. Instead, write the poem in a way that's truthful and that reflects your personality and appreciation for your friend.
