How to Fix Cottonmouth
Cottonmouth is an uncomfortable condition that feels as if your mouth is coated with cotton. It can be quite irritating because your mouth is extremely dry. You may feel thirsty and have a burning feeling in your mouth, along with a hoarse voice or sore throat. This can happen if you are not producing enough saliva. There are simple steps you can take to help relieve cottonmouth.

1
Try chewing gum or sucking on hard candy. The acts of chewing and sucking cause you to produce more saliva.
-
2
Try drinking more water. Doctors advise that you drink at least eight cups of water a day. You need water to keep you hydrated and ward off a dry mouth. Drink water instead of coffee, carbonated beverages or alcohol, which have a drying effect that may make your cottonmouth worse. Take a water bottle with you wherever you go.

3
Use a mouthwash that does not contain alcohol. The alcohol in some mouthwashes can contribute to a dry mouth.
-
4
Focus on your breathing. Make a conscious effort to breathe through your nose, not your mouth. Breathing through your mouth can cause it to become dry.
-
5
Place a humidifier in your bedroom, particularly if you wake up in the morning with cottonmouth. The humidifier will add moisture to the air. More moisture in the air will help keep your mouth moist.
