How to Do a 50s Pinup Hairstyle

Instead of paying the salon to create a 50s pinup hairstyle for you, teach yourself how to create fun, retro hair without leaving the house. Popularized by Bettie Page and worn today by Hollywood celebrities such as Dita Von Teese and Katy Perry, the 50s pinup look will never go out of fashion. It's a classic, flirty look for women with a sense of both humor and flair.

Things You'll Need

• Brush
• Sectioning clips
• Curling iron
• Bobby pins
• Hair spray

Instructions

1. Brush slightly dirty hair that has been blow dried straight. One or two days after washing works best to help hold the style.

2. Part hair deeply from front to back on the side that you prefer. Separate all of the hair into 2-inch sections using clips. For the hair around your face, part into 3 sections: the top and the two sides.

3. Use a curling iron to curl the sectioned hair, starting from the back of the head. Mist with hairspray as you go.

4. Tease the hair at the crown of the head with a fine-toothed comb and smooth the hair in front over top. Use bobby pins to hold the bump in the hair.

5. For the hair framing the face, curl away from the face and not toward it.

6. Gather these 3 sections around the face individually and curl them backwards onto the scalp. Secure with bobby pins.

7. Set look with hairspray.

• If your curls begin to unwind, twirl them around your finger and re-set with hairspray.
